I accept the following insurance plans for therapy services:

Aetna

Oscar Health

Oxford

United Healthcare

If you do not have these plans, credit/debit, health savings, and flexible savings cards are accepted. You can also receive a superbill to submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement. Here are questions to ask your plan, to determine your hourly fee if out-of-network:

  1. Do I have mental/behavioral health insurance benefits?

  2. What are my out-of-network provider benefits for mental/behavioral health services?

  3. What is my deductible, and has it been met?

  4. What is the coverage amount per therapy session and/or psychological testing?

  5. How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover and/or psychological testing hours?

  6. Is approval or pre-authorization required?

Dr. McFarlane’s hourly rates are

  • Testing — $250

  • Therapy — $200

  • Group Therapy — $70

Dr. McFarlane has a number of sliding scale appointments, if you cannot afford the hourly rate. All sliding scale appointments are filled. If you lack insurance, you can also seek care from Open Path Collective

As a new client, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate”.  A Good Faith Estimate explains how much your healthcare will cost.  Under the law, psychologist need to give patients who don’t have or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for behavioral health items and services.

If you are billed for more than this Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.  You may contact the health care provider or to let them know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill or ask if financial assistance available.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill.
